PM moves to name Jaak Aab Estonia's minister of public administration

Estonian Prime Minister Juri Ratas made a proposal on Wednesday morning to appoint Jaak Aab, secretary general of the Center Party, as minister of public administration in the Estonian government.

"Now it is up to the governing board of the Center Party to take their stand too, and if the governing board endorses Jaak Aab, Jaak Aab will probably become the next minister of public administration," Center Party spokesman Andre Hanimagi told BNS.

He said the board will gather to discuss Ratas' proposal on Tuesday, June 6.

The previous minister of public administration, Mihhail Korb, tendered his resignation last Wednesday after the media published a controversial remark concerning Estonia's NATO membership that he had made during a meeting with war veterans the day before.

The office of minister of public administration, a non-portfolio job attached to the Ministry of Finance, belongs to the Center Party under the division of government offices between the three parties of the ruling coalition.

Juri Ratas is chairman of the Center Party.
