The idea to make a large sculpture of a rooster for the Tallinn Zoo was suggested by the townspeople. During the celebration of the Year of the Rooster (according to the Chinese calendar), the sculptor Tauno Kangro made a form, which now is cast in bronze and found a place in the zoo, in front of those who were present at that time there.
On the Day of Parks in the Tallinn Zoo, the sculpture of the rooster was solemnly revealed. The image of this bird symbolizes cheerfulness and enterprise for western culture, and happiness - for the eastern. Sculpture also recalls the diversity of the world and the place in the zoo is very appropriate for it, because representatives of the animal world of all continents are demonstrated.
Tauno Kangro, who is a member of the Society of Friends of the Tallinn Zoo, wished the statue to be comfortable at the new place. During the opening ceremony, schoolchildren planted flowers on the surrounding lawn in order to come to admire the work of their own in the summer.
