1.7 magnitude quake hits Estonia over weekend

A 1.7 magnitude earthquake struck 5.6 kilometers east of the Western Estonian coastal town of Haapsalu at 3:21 a.m. on Sunday, the Geological SurveyofEstonia told ETV's "Aktuaalne kaamera."

On a global scale, this was a relatively very weak earthquake, however it was a remarkable event in the Estonian contet -writes err.ee

According to Geological SurveyofEstonia seismologist Heidi Soosalu, the earthquake occurred at a depth of one kilometer, or relatively close to the Earth's surface.

Lääne County and the island of Hiiumaa are relatively seismically active regions of Estonia, where weak earthquakes have previously been reported as well.
