The vice-mayor of Tallinn, Andrey Novikov, signed a memorandum of understanding on behalf of the Tallinn city government, which serves as a basis for cooperation between cities and rural municipalities in the implementation of the project for the creation of the Rail Baltic Railway.
He stressed that this railway is very important also as a chain connecting regions. The main task of Tallinn in connection with this project is the creation of an appropriate infrastructure, for example, the development of a tram network, participation in the creation of a coordinated public transport system for cities and volosts which happened to be in the railway corridor.
Cities and regions create synergy within the concept of innovative local transport hubs, which establishes that the zones of the cities of the European-wide transport network should be connected by regional and local transport. The need to reduce carbon dioxide emissions is also taken into account.
