On Tuesday, the program of the Days of the Old City was presented, which will be held from May 30th to June 3rd. At the opening of the Days of the Old City a bicyclist will ride over the Town Hall Square at an impressive height on the rope.
The Days of the Old City, the theme of which is "One Hundred Paces of the Century", are held for the 37th time in the jubilee year of the Republic of Estonia. The program consists of one hundred symbolic steps, that is, one hundred events that characterize the various events from 1918 to 2018.
"This year's program contains the moments of various stages of Estonia's history of the last hundred years - both joyful and sad," - said the elder of the Kesklinn region, Vladimir Svet. - In this case, the purpose of the Days of the Old City is not only to pay attention to the past, but also to comprehend the present. At one time, the Days of the Old City ended with night singing holidays, which played an important role in restoring Estonia's independence. Today the Days of the Old City are also connected with our state and what is happening in it."
Each day of the program of the Days of the Old City will be associated with a certain period of time in the history of Estonia: May 30th - "Happy National" (1918-1938), May 31st - "Under the Black Shadow" (1939-1955), June 1st - "Life as in cinema" (1956-1980), June 2nd - "Let's sing " (1981-1991) and June 3rd - "Changeable freedom" (1992-2018).
