At the national race in Pae Park, you will be able to donate blood and become a gene donor

Within the III national race in Pae Park, everyone will have the opportunity to become a gene donor by donating a blood sample for genetic analysis in the SYNLAB tent.

Started in early April, the collection of 100,000 genetic samples goes to the next stage - everyone wishing to become a gene donor, including athletes, is waited on May 23rd from 16:00 to 18:00 in the tent SYNLAB (located behind the building of the Lasnamäe district council at ul. Pallasti, 54) before the start of the race. Children's races begin at 17:30, the main race for a distance of 4.8 km - at 18:30.

The gene donor gives away 6 ml of blood. You do not need to book a time in advance, you can donate blood on a first-come, first-served basis. The whole procedure is free and takes only a few minutes. To donate blood, you can, but not necessarily, limit yourself to eating food and liquids 4 to 6 hours before you pass the genetic test. In the tent, SYNLAB specialists can also provide you with advice about the possibility of passing a physical examination in the laboratory.

In order to become a gene donor, you should fill out a consent form and donate blood for a sample. Your consent to become a gene donor can be confirmed with a digital signature using an ID-card or Mobiil-ID in the electronic environment Any Estonian who is not yet a member of the gene pool and who is older than 18 years, and who has an Estonian personal code can become a gene donor.

Elder of Lasnamäe, Maria Jufereva, noted that the competition itself is free for everyone, but the participants will be able to help the Children's Fund of the clinic of the University of Tartu on the spot. "The donations will be aimed at improving the impaired functions of seriously ill children who need developmental therapy, as well as developing their ability to cope with daily activities themselves," - Jufereva added.

At the end of last year, the government of the republic decided to stimulate the development of personalized medicine in Estonia, allocating 5 million euros in 2018 for a joint gene project of the Estonian gene pool of the University of Tartu, the Institute for Health Development and the Ministry of Social Affairs. The project is implemented on the basis of the Human Genome Research Act. The goal of the project is to collect this year's gene samples from 100,000 people and compile personal genetic passports on the basis of collected data in order to subsequently introduce genetic data into the health information system.

Nature cannot abide a vacancy, as the saying goes. If just one year ago, Estonia was battling the sale of MMS and the practice of giving it to children, a new “miracle cure” called Advanced TRS has appeared on the market now. Even though the make-up of the substance is different, the promise to cure autism and cleanse the body of heavy metals, which kind of extreme detox is accompanied by severe side-effects, sounds all too familiar. TRS is recommended to...

The time of filing income tax returns is nearly upon us. The new income tax system, in effect since last year, will obligate many women who went on maternity leave toward the end of the year to make additional income tax payments, while those who give birth in the middle or at the beginning of the year have no such obligation. What this means is that some women will owe the state simply for giving birth “at the wrong time”. Laura Roop, who went on maternit...
